The first US president to be born in a hospital was Jimmy Carter in 1924. All previous presidents were born in their parents' house, as was common at the time. Out of the presidents before Carter, 7 presidents were born in log cabins, and 8 weren't born in the US at all. George Washington, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, James Monroe, John Quincy Adams, Andrew Jackson, and William Henry Harrison were all born before the US became a country, though they were born in colonies that later became part of the US.

More facts about Presidents:

  • Virginia is the state where the most presidents have been born. 8 presidents have been born in Virginia, closely followed by Ohio, the birthplace of 7 presidents. 31 states have had no native sons go on to be presidents.

  • Only two US presidents have died in the White House: Zachary Taylor and William Henry Harrison. The only president buried in Washington D.C. is Woodrow Wilson, who is buried at Washington National Cathedral.

  • The first president to be born west of the Mississippi River was Herbert Hoover, who was born in Iowa. The first president to be born outside of the continental US was Barack Obama, who was born in Hawaii.
